Need Some New Memories
Can’t go to the diner
Can’t take in a show
Or chance an encounter
With someone I know
Can’t walk the same streets
We used to go down
Can’t live the same life
Without you around
Need some new memories
Need some old ones replaced
Need some new places
Where I don’t see your face
Headed off somewhere
I’ve never been
Where the past wouldn’t know me
If it found me again
Sometimes in a barroom
When asked to account
For this frown on my face
I stir up their doubts
Swear I can’t remember
Ol’ what’s your name
While lying, dying, trying
To kill all my pain
Need some new memories
Need some old ones replaced
Need some new places
Where I don’t see your face
Headed off somewhere
I’ve never been
Where the past wouldn’t know me
If it found me again
Can’t swim the same ocean
Can’t view the same sky
Or share the same planet
Without wanting to cry
Won’t make a difference
Even after you’re dead
Cuz I carry you with me
Up here in my head
Need some new memories
Need some old ones replaced
Need some synapses
Where I don’t see your face
Even if I go somewhere
I’ve never been
I’ll find you there waiting
To hurt me again
