Up from the Bottom

Up from the Bottom

You’re saying you’re unsatisfied
Like it’s something new to be
Putting on a parade of pain
To win our sympathy
But with no place left to fall
And nowhere worse to go
The surest way to ascend
Is if you start down low

So light your troubles up old pal
And smoke ’em if you’ve got ’em
The best things in this life I’ve found
Have come up from the bottom

Plants are planted underground
Like a Railroad that aimed
To win the blessed freedom
Of the ones who were in chains
Ain’t a bloom of hope allowed
By men of noble birth
Till we’ve tilled a ruckus up
Way down here on earth

So light your troubles up old pal
And smoke ’em if you’ve got ’em
The best things in this life I’ve found
Have come up from the bottom

Spend your lifetime looking out
For answers from on high
And try to curry favor with
That man there in the sky
If I could bet on just one thing
To please him most of all
It’s believing in the beautiful
Even when you’re feeling small

So light your troubles up old pal
And smoke ’em if you’ve got ’em
The best things in this life I’ve found
Have come up from the bottom

Yeah, light your troubles up old pal
And smoke ’em if you’ve got ’em
The best things in this life I’ve found
Have come up from the bottom
