When This Moment Ends

When This Moment Ends

With the warmest of hellos
A sunbeam greets my skin
What will I hold on to
When this moment ends

Like meaningful silence
Savored by old friends
What will I hold on to
When this moment ends

Half of having good times
Is learning to let go
Of all but the present
Only presence can bestow

My heart’s a tattered sail
As I wait for one good wind
What will I hold on to
When this moment ends

Each new day’s an offer
That that day then rescinds
What will I hold on to
When this moment ends

Half of having hard times
Is learning to let go
Of all but the present
Only presence can bestow

I leave them all behind me
Even those I’d choose again
What will I hold on to
When this moment ends

Now that I’m through guessing
What lies around the bend
What will I hold on to
When this moment ends

Most of being happy
Is learning to let go
Taking refuge in presence
And swearing off control

Seems like it’s all over
As soon as it begins
What will I hold on to
When this moment
When this moment ends
