Inside jokes for inside people

03.19.2020 by Chris Wilcox //

I was sitting around, feeling a little helpless in light of what the world is now facing, when a kind reader (and middle school classmate—hi Lizzy!) wrote to say she was having a laugh at some of my quips while sheltering in place in Oakland.

It was a nice message to receive out of the blue. I’ve been in kind of a funk lately and it’s good to think that I can contribute something to someone’s present-day happiness with half-forgotten words from years ago.

It occurred to me that maybe some of you newly have time on your hands and haven’t yet heard my “stand-up sit-down comedy specials” from 2016 and 2017.

If by some chance you have heard them, I can guarantee you know many others who haven’t. I can guarantee this because I see the stats that say almost no one ever listened to this stuff. And rightly so.

So, share it like it’s a cautious wave from six feet away.

Both recordings are embedded below if you’re on the site, and on the site if you’re in an email. (Click “Inside jokes for inside people” above.) They’re also available as downloads if you need to get rid of $10.

I’m loath to promise more new writing “soon,” as soons sometimes slip away, but I am feeling clearer on what my contribution in this moment can be. So, who knows? Keep an eye on your emails. Block out a little time for me, in between reorganizing your toilet paper bunkers, just in case.

Enjoy this? Tell someone about it.
